CLERGY: Forbid Them Not!

The Walk For Life, San Francisco, is an organic event that was birthed out of compassion and concern for those who are denied access to the American Dream: Children in the womb. I must express that I count it a privilege and an honor to “Bat Clean Up” for over two decades at this event. I share this not out of desire of recognition for this distinction but to illuminate three particular occurrences with the last requiring your immediate attention. After years of preaching there is a routine clergy develop in their preparation. We rarely allow changes in our established routines therefore we know when God has “Breaking News” we urgently share. Now the angelic intervention can happen either prior, during, or even after our allotted space for presentation. It’s done this way so you give proper priority to the message He is giving you to declare to the people. Yes, I am aware of the abuses of such proclamations of men and women ascribing God’s signature to their proclamations but also I know Revelation tells us the believer should have an ear to hear what the Spirit is saying to the church and know when Flesh & Blood is talking.

The first incident I am hoping will bring heightened priority to the last. This encounter is from the 12th annual West Coast Walk For Life Saturday January 23rd, 2016. Femen USA protested David Daleiden’s speech at the annual Walk for Life West Coast as it was held in front of San Francisco’s City Hall. It was a total honor to have met and shared the platform with David, as well as many other notable activists down through the years. The following is an excerpt taken from Femen USA press release of their protest covertly planned but known by God.

“Seconds after Daleiden took the stage, FEMEN activist Anni Ma set off a personal security alarm from within the crowd, and took her shirt off to reveal “FREEDOM MEANS CHOICE” painted on her chest. Activist Carly Mitchell joined Ma in chanting “Fraud! Hypocrite! Liar!” at Daleiden . FEMEN activist Chelsea Ducote donned volunteer vests that allowed them to “guard” the barricades near stage-left. The diversion created by Mitchell and Ma allowed them to rip off their tops and break through the barricades, sporting the slogans “ABORTION IS SACRED” and “F… YOUR MORALS” on their chests and chanting “Fraud, Fake, Liar!”

I might add the young male students gathered in the front along with Walk For Life security responses were hilarious! Security put forth their hands to escort them out and then would quickly withdraw their hands due to the protestors’ lack of clothing. The young men’s actions were respectful and responsible, but their expressions said they were “quite distracted” by the intrusion. Why was this Femen protest so profoundly impactful to me personally (not what you may be thinking) was due to what was spoken to me in July the previous year. LEARN was conducting social activism in the city of brotherly love (Philly) during the NAACP Convention. The final days of the protest exceeded expectations. I was meditating on the success when I received the message to share at 2016 Walk For Life, San Francisco. ‘What?’ I said in my mind. ‘So early?’ You have to know there are multiple times I don’t experience that blessed assurance of what to share until asked to come to the microphone. Yet, six months before, I received clear instructions on the scripture to share. What was it?

Mathew 25: 34-36 ”For I was hungry, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in: Naked, and ye clothed me” I had the opportunity of God’s providential timing to be preaching this exact scripture as San Francisco’s finest were subduing naked “Topless protestors.” A security person shared with me that just as I said the verse “Naked and Ye clothed me” Sisters For Life of New York President, Sister Agnus, was spreading a blanket over one of the protestors covering her nakedness. Remember, with today’s technology, millions have seen babies “naked” and did not cover them but dismembered them or destroyed them chemically. It certainly is America’s most egregious sin. Also, it should be noted that God foresaw the misguided protestors six months prior when He gave me the verse to share His heart on the matter and His love for Femen. Jesus desired to cover them regardless of their anger and error. Amazing grace!

The second incident is very difficult to share. It’s the 2021 Walk For Life West Coast. There was the covid crisis, and the walk was in question. Eva Muntean & Dolores Meehan decided to press on. Despite the precautions of the epidemic, pro-lifers showed up by the tens of thousands and demonstrated in the public square their commitment to the sanctity of Life. Assuredly, a man of inspiration, Father Fasio of Ignatius press and I, were the headline speakers which we preached from the back of a pick-up truck to a zealous audience of dedicated pro-life warriors. Awesome!

Normally my wife and I walk together but she was home ill, and I decided to make the trek to the Embarcadero by myself while greeting fellow activists along the way. I was waiting at instructed location which turned out to be the “The Finish Line” for a ride back to where I was staying. I was there waiting for a while when strangely I began to feel the presence of God and knew I was going to hear and receive instruction from Him. I felt that this was a very inopportune time for a divine encounter from God. All of a sudden I heard a familiar booming voice that was getting closer and closer. This was the distinct voice of Pastor Bruce Rivers.

Pastor Bruce and I previously had been missing each other at prior prolife events. Pastor Rivers had the gift of edification and was a Barnabus to our ministry and many others. If I was on assignment, He was always willing to come alongside and be a positive influence. Speaking in past tense alludes to what God had to say, but neither of us was aware of the meaning at the time. As I heard Pastor Rivers distant voice getting closer and closer, I clearly heard the still small voice of God say, “Tell Pastor Rivers that we may not see each other when we want to, but you will see him at the Finish Line…” To make sure to note the seriousness of what God was saying, I had a fellow activist record me on Facebook as I shared God’s message with my dear friend. That was January 23, 2021. On February 12, 2021, my friend and co-laborer was ushered into the embrace of His Saviour. Those that co-labored with him sorely miss him. We no longer get to see each other on this earth, but I will see him at the “Finish Line.”

Which brings us to 2026 Walk For Life West Coast. Due to emergency brain surgery, I missed 2025. 2026 was more meaningful for me. My self-assessment of invincibility has been severely reduced. My appreciation for another day, and reality of my fragility, causes me to rely upon His care more earnestly. Psalm 39:4

As always, I was looking to hear a rhema word concerning my homily for the West Coast Walk. I was actually taking a walk, not by design but of necessity, which allowed me time to meditate on the Lord. The scripture that came to me with great intensity and the impression of anger was, “Suffer the little children to come unto me and forbid them not for such is the kingdom of God’’ Mathew 19:14 Now this is a scripture I am very familiar with, and because of the intensity, I knew despite my familiarity, I was obviously missing a perspective. As soon as I turned to where it was found, the prescribed divine perspective, leaped from the pages. The future pillars of whom he would build His church, those he was leaving to carry His message –His clergy – were forbidding children to come to him! Interpretation: Jesus did not say this to the people. The people were not the problem. It was His leaders who were the stumbling block of offence.

Listen, there is no such thing as a pro-choice clergy! That’s an oxymoron. We are called to preach a gospel of life, not death. Jesus said do not forbid them with your preaching, don’t kill with your counsel, and for some, don’t cover your sexual indiscretion by murdering a child in the womb. “Forbid Them Not!” Pro-choice, that’s a lie for babies never choose to die!

I have been a pro-life activist for over 30 years. I always knew this but never saw this in His scripture from this perspective. Why? Time to repent. I believe God has drawn His line in the sand. God is saying to the clergy – His people who are called by His Name – to stop misleading people concerning what he has already commanded His founding clergy. Do Not Forbid The Children To Come Into this World, don’t you determine their life is not worth living. Count this message as a sign of the pending judgement! Proceed No Further.
