Dear Friends and Patriots,
Make America Great Again – MAGA. We all know that phrase; who doesn’t? But, the United States of America is a giant coalition. If a significant part of that coalition is not great, then the coalition as a whole cannot be.
I watched a video of Margorie Taylor Greene speaking on the floor of the House, I assume yesterday. She was in her full-up, fiery, no holds barred attack mode, but her topic had nothing to do with national policy, either foreign or domestic. It wasn’t an attack on one of her many Democrat enemies. She was going full-tilt boogie on the Republicans sitting around her. She was calling them out, specifically the ones she referred to as “neocons.” She didn’t call names, though. She didn’t make it personal. She was just putting people on notice that they aren’t fooling anyone.
What got MTG so stirred up? She was emoting about neocon Republicans who have been smiling, flag-waving super-patriots whenever any camera, microphone, or even an 8-year old with a pencil and a Post-It pad is nearby, but when no one notices is working behind the scenes to further the interests of Ike Eisenhower’s old bugaboo – the Military Industrial Complex. The MIC doesn’t need to be specified. We all know who they are. They’re the people and companies who supply anything anyone could want if the need is to wage a war.
MTG is pointing at the neocon contingent of the Republican Party and flatly stating they are selling President Trump down the river. She’s outing them as being participants in a very quiet effort, I won’t call it a conspiracy, to subvert President Trumps peace initiatives. She’s stating that Republicans in Congress are so invested in war they are subverting even notions of peace. She points to them as disloyal to Trump. She’s right on all points.
What MTG has truly picked up on is Trump is the People's President, not the Republican Party President. We haven't had an actual RP President since the one mentioned above ... Ike. Challenge me, if you will, but I can back that up.
The Democrats are strong because they know what each other wants from the game. They want power, money, protection, and a few other things that come with running with a wolf pack. They are almost entirely leftists now. The last conservative Democrat may have been Strom Thurmond. One thing anyone can say about Democrats – they know how to stick together. They have to. Theirs is a house of cards.
Republicans in Congress are weak because they not only advertise a big tent, but they have one. It’s filled with RINOs, neocons, and a couple or three who are decidedly center-left. Oh, and then there’s that Freedom Caucus bunch – the vocal and sometimes unruly gunslingers of Congress. With that mixture should there be any expectation of actual party unity? Dream on!
Republicans by themselves can't find their way inside during a rainstorm. Trump watched as the RP decided to get behind John “O-Club Gunner” McCain, a near-lunatic and pathological liar, and later as they followed up with “Professor Milquetoast Mitt” Romney, who exuded as much passion as an alligator. Trump understood that he could win as a Republican, so he chose to run as one. But, I distinctly recall the party elites considered him to be an outsider and an opportunist – and most of them secretly (or not-so) still do. They'll still accept their invitations to go to the Trump White House Christmas gala to have their pictures taken, but they are not his people. They aren’t and never will be. And, he’s perfectly aware of it.
Trump is a populist, but not in the authoritarian sense. He's a true man of the people. He’s been a public figure most of his life. He has some dirty laundry, but if he has secrets, Rona Barrett would have reported them years ago. That's what the RP has against him. They've never been able to put a leash on him and bring him to heel.
On normal days President Trump doesn't really need them, but he's awake to the truth that if Congress doesn't enshrine his vision of a better US government into law – it ain't gonna happen. That's a hard thing for the entire country to have to deal with. But, it's a Republican tradition to fail at the most critical moment – like McCain did when he single-handedly stopped the Obamacare recission bill in its tracks.
What does it take to have a Congress that’s willing to do more than the minimum? For over three decades we’ve heard the slur “Do-Nothing Congress.” It took me a bit to catch on to their reaction whenever the heat would get a might too intense. Almost without fail, some designated idiot would file a bill to make it a felony to burn the American flag. And, almost like Pavlov’s dog, there would be hundreds of thousands of voters screaming “Yeah! That’s a law we need!” Then, the bill would fail to pass – every time. People would seem a bit stunned, but not much because they never seemed to notice the vote on the bill would almost always be scheduled immediately after some huge national or international event. Thoughts about flag-burning, which the Supreme Court ruled long ago a First Amendment right, are always dropped, until it’s needed once again. People … they’ve been playing that and other dirty tricks forever.
I don’t have any answers. We do the best we can as voters. Those who are closer to the RP understand that candidates are “sort-of” pre-selected. All one needs to do is watch who the “smart” money goes to in any race. It’s been proven time and time again that the biggest war chest is mighty hard to beat. I think it’s important to note here that I’m talking about the importance of the primaries! That’s when the biggest sell-outs occur.
Allow me to address one of my questions above … the one that pertains to what can be done. It’s easy to say, “Be an informed voter, and make sure you vote in every election,” but human nature is what it is, and that’s not going to happen. If I’m right, then we are where we are until we see a Department of Justice that’s willing to indict sitting members of Congress for misfeasance, malfeasance, and criminal activity. The only thing that can control a pig at the trough is fear. Today … there is none … absolutely none.
If things don’t take a dramatic turn in Congress, no matter how good a leader Trump is, he may only buy us a few more years.
Talk to your member in Congress and in the Senate. Make sure they understand your expectations. If you want a responsible government, you have to initiate the conversation. Otherwise all you’ll hear is happy grunting and slurping sounds.
Will America be great again? Not if Congress never feels any heat.
In Liberty,
Steve
