Dear Friends and Patriots,

I don't know if this exercise Jud and I are doing is of any value to any of you or not. It's our hope that it is, but it's up to those who invest the time to watch and listen to make that judgment. Neither Jud nor I can do that, for fairly obvious reasons.

What we're doing is holding unscripted, unrehearsed, totally extemporaneous conversations and sharing our thoughts and understanding of things. We think these are the kinds of discussions everyone should have, or want to have, because they challenge us to dig a bit deep into ourselves to make some sense of the chaos that is our world.

We don't make the claim that everything we say is correct. Last show we went back and forth on the death date of Vladimir Lenin, and I was wrong about when he died. This show my imperfect memory was that "Carlos Smith" had raised his black-gloved hand in a black power salute at the 1968 Olympics. There was no Carlos Smith, though. There were 2 people who were involved – Tommy Smith and John Carlos. My memory was imperfect on that identification. That happens. Few of us has total recall. But, that detail, the name(s), is not actually important to the thought being conveyed. Still, we do strive to be as accurate as we are able.

Some parts of our conversation are a bit "deeper" than others. I consider that a sign that there was no defined theme we were trying to adhere to. Neither of us likes or wants to script or to work according to a template. That creates a sort of "hilly" effect to the flow. There are high spots and low ones. We are perfectly aware of that. What we're also aware of is while some of you may not like our "low" moments, others may like them best. We give you our best "in the moment" efforts and leave all judgments to you.

Now, do what you will. If you choose to watch and listen, this is the link:

Steve retired from the U.S. Coast Guard reserves in 2011, after serving over 22 years in uniform over the span of four decades. His service included duty on two U.S. Navy attack submarines, and one Navy and two U.S. Coast Guard Reserve Units. He is now retired after working as a senior civil servant for the U.S. Navy for over 31 years. Steve is a member of the Alabama Minority GOP and Common Sense Campaign.
