Deborah Stevenson column
Deborah Stevenson is an appellate and constitutional law attorney and the founder of the National Home Education Legal Defense, LLC. She has been practicing law since 1999 and is legal counsel to many civic organizations, including Connecticut Homeschool Network, Inc., We the People of Connecticut, Inc., Connecticut Parents' Rights Coalition.

She's been a keynote speaker or presenter at various events and legislative meetings on parental and homeschool rights, including: We the People of Main forum on Article V Convention of the States; North Carolina Legislative Caucus on Article V Convention of the States; Town Hall Meeting on Public Education Perspectives at Quinnipiac University; School Based Mental Health Conference, Western Connecticut State University; New Hampshire Liberty Forum; New England Homeschool and Family Learning Conference Massachusetts; and the Black and Puerto Rican Caucus Connecticut General Assembly. She's also appeared on local, state, and national television.

Deborah has published many articles, including "Schooling the UN" in Glenn Beck's Fusion Magazine; "Germany, the UN, and a Constitutional Amendment"; "Do You Know What Law Enables You to Homeschool" in Family Times Magazine"; and many others.

She's the mother of two grown daughters, both homeschooled, one of whom graduated college at age 16 and the other graduated at age 15. One has her Master's Degree in Astrophysics and her PhD in Paleoclimatology, and is an Assistant Professor at the University of California at Santa Barbara. The other has her Master's Degree in Recreational Therapy and is Supervisor at an Assisted Living facility.


Please stop calling forced isolated public or private school at home during a pandemic “homeschooling.” It’s not.
