Trashing America abroad

Partisanship has always been part and parcel of American politics, but bipartisanship when dealing with foreign policy, particularly concerning foreign threats has also been an American tradition. As far back as 1814, Daniel Webster advocated for national and political unity when dealing with the British in the War of 1812. In 1947 when Republicans controlled Congress, Republican Senator Arthur Vandenburg proclaimed “Politics stops at the water’s edge” to foster national unity and support for Democrat President Harry Truman in passing the Marshall Plan and the formation of NATO. Both became generational successes and good for the country, so why has that dictum been forgotten?

At the Global Progressive Mobilisation summit (an international socialist conference) in Barcelona Spain this month, Democrats rushed to not just criticize but malign President Trump and declare the war on Iran not just wrong but lost. Minnesota Governor Tim Walz said “we have a feeble-minded trigger-happy president;” he went on to say Iran presented no threat and Trump had no clear objectives and no exit strategy. Connecticut Senator Chris Murphy howled that Trump simply wants to end American democracy. Rational criticism and genuine questions from the opposition are acceptable, but undermining the Commander-in-Chief on foreign soil is not.

Examination of Walz’s unhinged comments do not reconcile with reality. Iran has been a real threat since 1979, when it attacked and killed the first of over a thousand Americans and began exporting terror across the world. Furthermore, Iran has become perilously close to producing nuclear weapons, which they have sworn to use. Trump, like every president since 1979, wisely recognized Iran can never be allowed to have a nuclear weapon, so that is his number one objective, and he stated their military and terror capacity to threaten their neighbors, and our allies must be destroyed. He has severely decreased Iran’s military capability and is determined to remove any nuclear threat. Those are clear objectives and largely already achieved.

To be clear, let’s revisit the very real threat the Islamic Republic of Iran poses to the United States and the world. Since radical Iranian Islamists stormed the US Embassy in 1979 and held 66 Americans hostage for 444 days, Iran has been at war with America. Their proxies in Lebanon, Hezbollah who has held Lebanon hostage for decades, blew up the US Embassy and the Marine Barracks in 1983 in Beirut. They have exported terror across the Middle East, Africa, Europe, and even here at home for half a century. Iran has destabilized Lebanon, Iraq, Sudan, and Yemen; all these countries are plagued by constant terror attacks. They have been vowing “death to America” for 47 years and have acted on that every chance they get, so why does anyone doubt their threats?

Americans including from both parties have pretty much always united against any foreign enemy, so why is Iran different? Over the years, every Senator including Democrats have declared Iran is a grave threat and must never have nuclear weapons, but now that Trump is acting decisively to ensure Iran never gets a nuclear weapon, Democrats oppose any such action, and some are even cheering on Iran. Murphy retweeted Iranian propaganda about Iranian ships running the blockade with the comment “awesome.” He is aiding the enemy while our troops are still in the field!

Undermining our troops while they are in harm’s way is treasonous. Even for those who oppose the war or just hate Trump, the fact is we are in a conflict that if successful will make America safer and bring peace to the Middle East. Having the courage to take down this vile enemy, Trump deserves the chance to succeed, and our troops deserve only encouragement and support while they are on the battlefield.

We hope Democrats support our military, but their problem is they just cannot support Trump under any circumstances. Democrats will agree that Iran should never have nuclear weapons, but they also agree that Trump can never be allowed any success. So, Democrats face a conundrum. Support Trump against Iran and let him score a huge strategic and political success, or suffer an existential threat from a nuclear armed Iran.

At a Michigan Democrat Women’s Conference, Kamala Harris recently quipped that Trump’s actions have made the US unreliable to our allies which is absurd, and that he only acts for personal political gain which is equally absurd. He is at the end of his political career. Trump is clearly not acting for political gain. If Trump was pursuing political expediency, he would just kick the Iranian can down the road like the previous six presidents. With higher energy prices, Trump is risking the affordability issue, and he is risking political support for the midterm elections from those wary of any war, especially a prolonged war.

Trump and most Americans know that the Islamic Republic of Iran will never stop attacking America and if they ever get nuclear weapons, it could be devastating, so Trump is putting it all on the table to guarantee the safety of future generations and spare them nuclear war with Iran – it’s truly a noble cause.

Any honest examination shows it’s the Democrats acting solely for political gain. To win the Congress in the midterm elections, Democrats are rooting for Iran to damage Trump. They are willing to allow Iran to continue exporting chaos and terror and they are willing to risk your children facing nuclear Armageddon just to see Trump fail and win back Congress in the fall. It’s so despicable and ruthless that it’s hard to imagine any American could vote for Democrats.

Insulting Trump is one thing, but trashing America abroad is treason.

“Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and every city or house divided against itself shall not stand” (Matthew 12:25).
